It aims to be a portal to debate. The panel on the left points to the latest stories in health policy as well as links to blogs, political sites and health policy experts. The main body on the right provides a narrative of debate on the key issues of the day, counterposing different perspectives.
My name is Tom Smith. Until recently I worked as an analyst for the BMA. I've also been an NHS manager, a university researcher, an independent consultant and worked for a think tank. I understand as well as anyone the range of views on health that exist.
This site exists to bring these different perspectives together.
Regular postings will explore key debates on issues ranging from professionalism, to looking at what patient and public involvement means. It will examine the increase of use of competition and market forces in public examine. It will weigh up a changing balance between local and central decision making and follow the changing contours of an increasingly ideological debate.
